When you visit a supermarket in Europe, you may notice a chocolate brand with rows and rows of purple packages. That brand is Milka, one of Europe’s most popular and affordable chocolate brands.
In my previous article, I introduced some chocolate you can buy in Austrian supermarkets. This time, I’m focusing specifically on Milka.
Milka is known for its smooth, creamy chocolate made with Alpine milk, and it is extremely popular throughout Europe. Compared with premium chocolate brands such as Lindt, Milka is relatively affordable and easy to find in supermarkets, so it is not uncommon to see people buying several bars at once.
In fact, some European supermarkets have an entire section of shelves dedicated to Milka chocolate bars. With so many different flavors available, it can be difficult to decide which one to try.

Alpenmilch
Let’s start with Alpenmilch, one of Milka’s classic flavors. This is the brand’s standard milk chocolate.
As soon as you take a bite, you can taste the rich creaminess of the milk. It is fairly sweet, but not overwhelmingly so, and it has a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture.
It may not be the most exciting flavor, but it is a classic milk chocolate taste that is easy to enjoy. If you are trying Milka for the first time, this is probably the best flavor to start with.
A simple, delicious, and reassuringly classic milk chocolate.
Noisette
Noisette is a chocolate with hazelnuts.
Finely chopped nuts are mixed into the chocolate, and when you bite into it, you get a pleasant roasted nutty flavor. The nuts are more noticeable than I expected, giving it a richer taste than regular milk chocolate.
The sweetness of the milk chocolate combined with the roasted flavor of the hazelnuts gives this chocolate a more complex taste. I think it is especially satisfying if you are a fan of nuts.
A great choice if you are getting a little tired of ordinary milk chocolate.
Dessert au Schokolade
Of all the flavors I tried this time, Dessert au Schokolade was my personal favorite.
The flavor reminded me a lot of the chocolate cream topping on
Sachertorte, the famous Austrian chocolate cake.
The outside is covered in ordinary chocolate, but inside there is a soft chocolate cream with a light, airy texture. The cream feels fluffy and delicate, giving this chocolate bar much more of a dessert-like character.
The texture is quite different from a regular chocolate bar, making this one feel a little more special among Milka’s lineup.
If you love sweet chocolate, this is a flavor you are very likely to become obsessed with.
Caramel
This one is the caramel flavor.
It definitely tastes like caramel, but unlike the picture on the package, you do not get a thick, runny caramel sauce pouring out when you bite into it.
Instead, it feels more like there is a smooth caramel-flavored paste inside the chocolate.
Erdbeer
Erdbeer is a strawberry-flavored chocolate.
Inside is a strawberry-flavored cream, and the combination of sweet milk chocolate and the slightly tart sweetness of strawberries works really well. It has a strong dessert-like quality and feels almost like eating a sweet treat rather than a regular chocolate bar.
This is a good choice if you enjoy berry-flavored sweets.
Simply delicious and a flavor that is easy to see becoming popular.
TraubenNuss
TraubenNuss is a slightly unique flavor made with raisins and nuts.
There are plenty of raisins inside the chocolate, and when you bite into them, you get a sweet fruity flavor. The addition of nuts gives it a pleasant roasted flavor and makes the chocolate quite filling.
Chocolate with raisins can be a bit divisive, but if you like raisins, I think this is a flavor you could really enjoy.
Recommended for anyone who enjoys sweets with dried fruit.
Ganze Haselnüsse
If you are thinking, “Noisette isn’t nutty enough for me. I want a lot more nuts!”
Then Ganze Haselnüsse is the one for you.
This flavor is packed with large chunks of hazelnuts.
I’m not a huge fan of nuts myself, so this wasn’t really my favorite.
Still, as I ate it, I couldn’t help thinking that this must be a dream flavor for serious nut lovers.
Weiße Schokolade
Weiße Schokolade is Milka’s white chocolate.
It has a strong milky flavor and is quite sweet. Compared with regular milk chocolate, it has a different kind of rich and creamy taste.
Because the sweetness is quite intense, this may be the kind of chocolate you enjoy little by little rather than eating a large amount at once.
A classic flavor worth trying if you are a fan of white chocolate.
Lotus Biscoff
This is a collaboration flavor with the popular Biscoff cookie, which is also well known in Japan. It has a rich, caramel-like sweetness, and that distinctive Biscoff flavor comes through nicely in the chocolate.
Actual Biscoff cookie crumbs are mixed into the chocolate, adding a subtle crunchy texture.
The Biscoff flavor is not overpowering, creating a nice balance with the smoothness of the milk chocolate. It is a flavor you can enjoy without getting tired of it.
One thing to note, however, is that this bar is 90g rather than the usual 100g.
Kuhflecken
“Kuhflecken” is a German word meaning “cow spots” or “cow pattern.”
As the name suggests, this flavor combines white chocolate and milk chocolate in a cow-like pattern. The playful design feels very much like Milka.
When I tried it, I noticed not only the gentle sweetness of the white chocolate, but also a surprisingly strong roasted, nutty flavor from the milk chocolate portion.
The package does not specifically mention nuts, but to me, it tasted almost as if Noisette had been mixed in. It reminded me of a combination of white chocolate and Noisette, with more roasted flavor than regular milk chocolate.
The white chocolate makes it quite sweet, but the nutty flavor helps keep it interesting, so I was able to enjoy it all the way to the last bite.
This is a good choice not only for white chocolate lovers, but also for anyone who enjoys Noisette-style chocolate.
OREO
Next up is the OREO collaboration flavor. As you might expect from a collaboration with OREO, this one is very sweet.
It might actually be the sweetest flavor I have tried from the Milka series so far.
Because of that, it may not be for everyone. But OREO itself is quite sweet, so if you are an OREO fan, this is definitely a flavor you might love.
🐰 Limited Edition! I Also Tried Milka’s “Happy Easter” Flavor
When Easter approaches, supermarkets start filling their shelves with all kinds of limited-edition chocolates. This time, I also tried Milka’s “Happy Easter” flavor!
This cute seasonal bar is made with milk chocolate topped with little bunny-shaped pieces of white chocolate. 🐇
The packaging is also designed for Easter, with bright spring-like colors that really stand out.
As soon as you take a bite, you get the familiar smooth and creamy taste of Milka milk chocolate.
The white chocolate adds an extra creamy texture and makes the overall flavor noticeably sweeter.
The bunny-shaped pieces are not just cute to look at—they also add a little extra sweetness, making this a satisfying treat when you are craving something sweet.
My Personal Ranking of the Best Milka Flavors
Here is my personal ranking of the flavors I tried this time.
1st: Dessert au Schokolade
2nd: Noisette
3rd: Alpenmilch
4th: TraubenNuss
5th: Erdbeer
6th: Weiße Schokolade
In particular, Dessert au Schokolade left the biggest impression on me because of its dessert-like texture, which is quite different from an ordinary chocolate bar.
