From Graz Hauptbahnhof, you can take an S-Bahn train to Feldbach and then transfer to bus 406.
However, the bus runs only about once every two hours, so careful planning is essential.
There is another important point to keep in mind: bus 406 does not operate on winter holidays.
If you are planning to visit on a winter weekend or holiday, traveling by car is essentially necessary, so make sure to check the schedule before you go.
What to Expect | Start with a Movie, Then Enter the Chocolate Tasting Paradise
After entering, the experience begins with an approximately 20-minute introductory movie. It explains Zotter Schokolade’s philosophy, its approach to cocoa, and its sustainability initiatives, building anticipation for what comes next.
Then comes the highlight: the all-you-can-taste chocolate area.
When you enter, each visitor receives one spoon. During the introductory movie, visitors are repeatedly told something along the lines of:
“This is the most important thing. Don’t lose it!”
You will quickly understand why.
More Than 200 Varieties | A Chocolate Theme Park
The tasting experience starts with samples of cocoa beans and cocoa powder. To be honest, this part feels more like an educational section, and the flavors are not exactly delicious (laughs).
But as you move further inside, everything changes, and you enter a seemingly endless area filled with serious chocolate tasting opportunities.
- Chocolate products that you can break apart and taste yourself
- Machines that dispense the perfect amount of liquid chocolate when you pull a lever
- A robot that serves individual pieces of chocolate
- Chocolate delivered by a miniature cable car
The variety of ways the chocolate is presented is incredible, and even watching the machines and displays is entertaining.
You can compare chocolates in increments of 10% cocoa content, as well as try white chocolate, raspberry, strawberry, caramel, coffee, and many other flavors. The sheer variety of chocolates that you would normally never be able to try all at once is amazing.
And best of all, everything you taste is an actual product that is sold by Zotter, so the quality is excellent.
The No-Time-Limit Problem | You Will Eventually Get Tired of Chocolate
There is no time limit on the chocolate tasting experience.
At first, this sounds amazing and your excitement is at maximum level. But by the end, you will almost certainly reach the point where you think:
“Maybe… I’ve had enough chocolate…”
There is even a liquid chocolate tasting station in the souvenir shop after you leave the main exhibition area, but by that point, I couldn’t bring myself to try any more.
Technically, the experience also includes a “factory tour,” but honestly, I doubt many people pay much attention to the actual factory section.
I certainly don’t remember much of it (laughs).
Tips for Enjoying Zotter | Bring a Thermos of Hot Water!
The quality of the chocolate is excellent, but there is one unavoidable problem: your mouth keeps getting sweeter and sweeter.
That is why I strongly recommend bringing:
A thermos filled with hot water
Drinking hot water between tastings helps reset your palate and allows you to keep enjoying the chocolate until the very end.
This is genuinely important, so I want to emphasize it!
Bonus Attraction | A Small Zoo Is Also on Site
Zotter Schokolade also has a small zoo on the property. However, this is more of a bonus attraction, and there are fewer animals to see during the winter season.
In summer, families with children may find this part more enjoyable.
